Welcome to the CPDN message boards!

As the climate model runs it creates output files of various sorts. At regular intervals it will process these output files into two types of upload, which it will attempt to send to the CPDN server. The first type of upload is a small file, called a 'trickle'. The second type of upload contains the bulk of the science data and is a much larger Zip file. BOINC will also attempt to get more work from time to time.

Sometimes BOINC on your machine won't be able to connect to the CPDN server, either because there is a problem at the server or at your end, in which case the files simply accumulate until a connection can be made. If some communication with the server succeeds then a one hour deferral is applied to your machine, during which it won't attempt to communicate again. This is to reduce the load on the server from the thousands of attached machines. This produces the 'communication deferred' message. The displayed time will simply count down to zero and communication is then possible again.

The only thing I would add to Ian's reply is that there is no point in clicking the update project button in this case as the hour will restart each time you do so.

Thank you for answering my question. I do NOT use the upload button at all. The Ready to Report comes on for Climatepredition; Asteroids and Consellations and then a 'waiting to run' comes on. It's been two days and I am hoping that it will start again. Just waiting at this point.

Both of your climate models have crashed.
You probably won't get any more for a while because your other projects are "owed" an equal share of processing time.

I am also receiving "Communication Deferred" updates on my new machine. Is something wrong with the project? Or is something wrong on my computer?

Martin,

There is not currently any work available, so you will continue to get this message until a task is successfully downloaded. You can check whether new models are available by following the 'Server Status' link in the menu to the left.
