Message 46456 - Posted: 19 Jun 2013, 6:03:24 UTC - in response to Message 46455.

The problem still remains.
The file in question is: account_project name.xml
This contains the information about you on that project. It's a good idea to back this up to a few external places, because it can get you back into that project if you have a total disk crash.

Will the regular way of connecting be restored at some point?
Sorry, I'm still working on "Life, The Universe, and where did I leave my glasses this time?
The hard questions will have to wait.

Thanks @MikeMarsUK! Finally tried the commandline like you said and I am back in business. Happily crunching away again.

Congrats should go to Marcel, Ron & Cadeus who did the actual investigative work :-)

Glad you are working now.

Hi guys,

this thread became a little bit unclear I think. I hope I understood everything correctly. A little summary would be recommendable.

1. Adding CP with boinc manager (connected to boinc_client) isn't possible at the moment
2. No chance to get this issue short-dated fixed
3. Adding CP on commandline with "boinc --attach_project URL ID" works fine

Am I right?

At the moment I'm not sure if there is a difference between a existing or new CP account. Maybe someone can write down a few words about this, if there is a difference.

i guess you're right.

addtition to 3. : it doesn't work all the time. E.g. it didn't work for me, because i had deleted everything related to CPDN from my machine, not only detached the machine.

Message 46503 - Posted: 24 Jun 2013, 12:23:12 UTC

Am I being stupid?
I started boinc like this:

boinc --attach_project URL ID

and it seems to work. After a few days I looked into Boincstats, but there was no work recorded.

What did I wrong?

See here:

Thanks for help

Looking at the stderr output for a few failed HADCM3N models (e.g. here) there seems to be library problem.

You may have to install the 32-bit compatibility libraries for your 64-bit distribution.

But I already installed this pakets:

yum install compat-libstdc++-296.i686 compat-libstdc++-33.i386 compat-libstdc++-33.x86_64

Like described here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_on_Linux#64_Bit_Considerations

That usually takes care of it, but RH6 seems to lack some other needed packages at times. From the terminal window, you could try running "ldd" on each of the hadcm3 executables to see if there are any dependencies missing.

So,

same problem here.
iMac mid 2011 and can't attach the project anymore.

For command line, there is no BOINCCMD or anything else.... and if I use the BOINC file, it says, that my command was wrong....

Any clues?

i tried everything and nothing works.

now i wait for the project-admins to resolve this. obviously they still have enough volunteers, not to make this issue a priority.

Rosiv

For the Mac, it seems that Manager control, and commandline control, are two separate versions of BOINC.

See this page.

Me too - can't attach, it fails. Hard drive failed so had to reinstall everything. All projects attached without a hitch except this one.

All I can gather from all the chatter are 2 things...

1. The problem seems to have arisen since CPDN adopted their new web page and BOINC is using an incorrect URL to attach.

(I've looked everywhere on the website for an alternate URL which is usually shown on any project's main page, no luck)

2. A command line has to be used in the BOINC data folder. Well unless someone spells it out how to do that for dummies, I'm stuck.

Message 46514 - Posted: 25 Jun 2013, 22:21:06 UTC - in response to Message 46513.

The problems all started when our old php board was hacked, necessitating that the server be removed. This also contained a lot of other project data.

The problem is getting a script file to work, which involves several different server/project versions.

I'll ask again if "we're there yet."

There's a command line Wiki here. Whether you consider that to be for dummies or geeks is another matter.

Thanks for the link - I did look but I guess in the wrong places. If I manage to attach using the command line is that it? Am I attached in the normal manner and things should proceed from then on?

Tried the command line, but it fails with an error..maybe I'm not in the right directory in the Command Prompt? Thus far people only mention the BOINC directory...there are many.

The wiki says to be in the client directory.
On my Windows machine, there is a BOINC icon labelled "client" in the programs section of BOINC. This is also where the boinccmd program is.

The wiki string is --project_attach URL account_key.
The last part of this is your account key, which is/was in the file: account_climateprediction.net.xml
