I am relatively new to climateprediction and currently have 3 tasks from climateprediction available to run at the moment. I am also running tasks from SETI and Einstein (the other 4 of my 7 available threads). I started having problems just over a week ago but narrowed the problem down to one of the climate prediction tasks. If I start this task running, it will cause all tasks from all projects to continuously need to restart. The obvious result is no work being done.
What should I now do with this broken task? It is 88+ minutes into the task with 165+ minutes remaining.

While a full cure will depend highly on your computer settings/preferences, (which no one else can see), there's several things that you can try/need to know.

1) These Coupled Ocean models don't run well with too many of them at a time, or with other WUs that make heavy use of the FPU.
I'd suggest a max of 2 for a 4 core processor.
This may require that you use a different 'venue' for that computer for this project, so that you can set different values to that used by your other projects.

2) Your computer only has 4 real cpus, and 4 virtual cpus, which only give a few percent extra processing power.

3) If your work for other projects do indeed keep re-starting and not crashing, then it may be because they don't reach a checkpoint. (Or don't have checkpoints.)
One thing to try here, is to set Leave tasks in memory while suspended? to Yes.

4) Coupled Ocean models take about 3 weeks with a 2.40GHz Core 2 computer. I think that they'll need at least 2 weeks with an Ivy bridge computer.
So if you're only 88 hours into them, you'll need a bit longer than 165 hours to finish.

5) Mac computers have problems with BOINC upgrades. See this post at the top of the Macintosh section of this board about the problem.

Thanks for the info Les,

I have changed "Leave tasks in memory while suspended?" to yes and will retry this task by itself once the other 2 climateprediction tasks have ended.

I have not yet upgraded BOINC on my Mac as is a fairly new install but will re-read the post that you mention before I do.

I will repost once I have re-tried that task.
