I recently noticed that I am receiving an application terminated due to a run time error message when climateprediction is running. When I look at the Event Log it appears that climateprediction hasn't prcessed anything since April 5. When the screensaver runs the climateprediction map is displayed on screen but the progress indicator doesn't increment. It's been on step 233,352 all week. I'm running W7 Home professional. All of my other BOINC projects seem to be running ok. |

Interesting that a trickle was uploaded for timestep 233,280 on 6th. I suspect this is a model problem rather than a windows problem but, not having run windows on my box this century....... |

The exact error messages is: "Run Time Error "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information". This msg is presented in a standalone box hidden behind the Climate Prediction screen saver display. |

That message happens occasionally. As the timesteps aren't changing, it can be assumed that the model has crashed, but not fully terminated, a situation which also happens now and then. You can try to Exit from BOINC, and then restart BOINC to see if the model will restart from the last checkpoint, but in the end you'll probably have to Abort it. Backups: Here |

Restarting the BOINC client doesn't appear to have had any effect. I restarted my machine and observed operation of the screensaver for several days. I had to cancel the popup window that shows the error message using Task Manager. Do you have any other ideas? How can I get a different version of the model? |

You can abort the current model, getting a fresh one may be a bit of a wait till the researchers release a new batch. At present there just seem to be the odd ones that are automatically regenerated or possible re-released when terminated - not due to computing error etc. Not sure how to tell which they are. Dave |

It appears that a new model was sent out and now climateprediction background seems to be processing normally. I'll watch for a few more days but it looks like there was a problem in the downloaded data model. |

I think I may have a problem with ClimatePrediction in combination with MalariaControl. In the past it happend several times that ClimatePrediction ended abnormal ("berekeningsfout" - computational error) just at the moment a task of MalariaControl got active. It happend 3 to 4 times in the past half year. Windows Event Viewer doesn't say much about this error. My workaround is stopping MalariaControl after a while, and let ClimatePrediction have its share, but this isn't supposed to happen, does it? Does anyone out there in the world encountered the same problem, or is this a new one? kind regards, Roland |

Roland, I've been running CPDN and MC as my main projects for 6 years and have never had the problem you describe. Your computers are hidden so nobody can check your results unless you give us a link to one of your failed tasks or post the exact error on its page (the exit status and the messages displayed when you click the '+' on the stderr line_. Also how much memory and how many CPU cores does your computer have and are your computing preferences set to leave applications in memory? Memory use for CPDN tasks depends on the application (HadCM3N need no more than 250MB and HadAM3P regional around 350MB). MC tasks tend to start running with a reasonably small memory footprint (around 20MB) but the longer running ones can end up using a lot of memory (I've seen some tasks using well over 500MB).
