on my overclocked AMD2500M box when I display graphics for current CPDN work unit stars appear in front of the globe and the scrolling title is intermittant. However on my laptop pentium 4 3.2Ghz with hyperthreading I don't have this problem. Is this a problem with my setup or maybe the work unit ?

Box:
AMD 2500 M @ 2000 Mhz 200Mhz fsb
Sapphire 9800xt
Abit KV7 mobo
1Gb ram

Laptop:
Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Hyperthreading
ATI 9100 IGP
512Mb ram

it must be something with your graphics hardware or drivers, which can vary greatly. workunits don't affect graphics other than one workunit may show a "hotter" or "colder" earth or more/less clouds than another depending on parameters etc.

Check/upgrade your video card OpenGL drivers. Most of the problems noticed in the beta test are related to this.

Hope this may help!

@Carl
I see you have viseted the Kuhrfürstendamm! Do you like it and your visit in Berlin? If I'm allowed to ask, what have you done in Berlin? Visit the GFZ in Potsdam?

yeah, it was a great trip. I am going to Hamburg for a short meeting this week and then a little holiday in Hamburg, Bremen (where I will meet "Team Nordlichter" and other SETI@Home (and hopefully CPDN ;-) users), and then Lubeck; basically all next week, should be back Tuesday 21st Sept. I will still pop in online to see how things are going.

In Berlin I was working on a proposal with people at Free Univ Berlin for a "climateprediction.eu" which is kind of like CPDN but using the climate model that Max Planck Inst in Hamburg uses, as well as the French CERFACS model. It will add a lot of other things too, such as more "grid computing" stuff for the server-side scientific access to data worldwide, as well as using BOINC to deploy runs to clusters & other unused "big computers" at institutions etc. Which is kind of what my meeting in Hamburg will be about too.

I visited Fraunhofer Gmbh in the east side of Berlin (I guess formerly it would have been "East Berlin"), the area is now a nice "tech campus", sort of "Silicon Valley" kind of "vibe." Franhofer will be on the proposal to do a lot of the "grid" work if cp.eu goes through. The proposal got good ratings last year but just didn't make the funding cut, so we are going to resubmit it with some changes (i.e. addresses what the "critics didn't like") and hope for the best!

I gave a talk at the FUB on CPDN & BOINC which seemed fairly well received (it was a beautiful day, great weather last week so I was surprised anyone showed up! :-) And then last Saturday & Sunday I did the "tourist thing" and went all over Berlin -- let's see well the Ku'damm of course and "Checkpoint Charlie" and the Jewish Museum, "arts center", of course Brandenberg Tor, etc. Then after a day of that I went down to Potsdam to see the "Sans Souci" etc. But I was so tired after a day of touring Berlin I pretty much just relaxed at Potsdam and had a beer by the river! Sunday I was flying back to LHR so I took it easy and just drank some final "weisbier's" on the Ku'damm before heading back to the airport in the early evening.

It was my first trip to Germany and I loved it!

Nice to here about this! Now the weather here isn't so nice, actually it's raining (you'll think the apocalipse is near ;-)). I'm happy that there will be (in near future) also projects from German instituts. Hasn't the FUB also developed the camera of the ESA MarsMission?
Happy that you have enjoyed it here!

Greetings from Germany!
