Hi,

I have been running climateprediction on my computers since 2004, but lately it starts to give error messages.

I think my user account was my old email adress: henkb-at-xs4all-dot-nl
Is the climateprediction program not working anymore?

Cheers, Henk.

That second error image contained a message to contact Carl, with an email address.
This message was from back in the pre-BOINC days, and no longer applies.

It also implies that you\'re STILL running what is now referred to as \"Classic\" cpdn. This program, and models, was discontinued a few years ago, and there have been messages about this posted at intervals in the News and Announcements thread, which is a \'stickied\' thread near the top of the Number crunching section of this board.

If your error messages apply to a problem with the current BOINC versions of the programs, (which are working fine at present), then please post again.

I\'ve made those links live so the first can remind us of what Classic used to look like.

I\'ve looked at the News thread, Les, and although I posted on 12 Feb 09 in the independent forum News about Classic closing and Milo announced it on the index page of the website, I don\'t think we ever copied the announcement to this forum. We must have thought that nobody who still had Classic would come to this Boinc forum.

Anyway, the Classic server is now closed so I\'m afraid you can\'t upload that model. Sorry - I know you\'ll feel disappointed.

System, have you still got Boinc on your computer?

* Uninstall Classic (Start > Settings > Control panel > Add & remove software).

* If you have Boinc, right-click on the icon to see its version. If it says 5.something.something it\'s too outdated. If that\'s the case or you haven\'t got it, download it from here. You don\'t need to uninstall any existing version first.

* The installation wizard will ask you to attach to a project. Select ClimatePrediction and say you\'re an existing member. Give the same email address as when you joined in June 2006.

* Boinc will tell the CPDN server to send you a model.

* When you have time, please go into your CPDN account and change your username to a better one than SYSTEM. For example Henk so we know who you are when you post.

Please let us know whether that helps you to get going.

Thanks, I think succeeded in removing the classic version. Which btw was installed on 19 september 2003!?

I must say I am a little surprised that the classic version was not supported anymore. What did happen with the calculated results of the last year(s)?
Everytime a run did complete I got an email from the system (?).

A list from my mailbox since 1/1/2008:
climateprediction.net 27 jun, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 19 feb, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 27 aug, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 25 sept, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 26 sept, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 6 nov, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 23 nov, 2008 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 17 jan, 2009 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 19 jan, 2009 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 7 apr, 2009 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 3 jun, 2009 climateprediction.net run completed
climateprediction.net 5 jul, 2009 climateprediction.net run completed

Each email contains a message like:
>>
The climateprediction.net team is happy to report
that you have finished run # 236794
on your machine named [CHIEF]
and uploaded the results to our server.

The program has automatically downloaded and
started a new model to run on your machine.
You can check on your results, join teams, and
much more at your personal web page at:

Should you wish to unregister and uninstall
the program please visit the following page
to unregister from the project:

Thank you for your help with our project!
<<

Anyway, I installed the BOINC software - and it is running now.
Thanks for your support.

Hoi, Henk.

Gooien avond, Henk. Dit naam ist beter als System!

The Classic models were used for one of the first pieces of CPDN research which was to demonstrate that home computers can process models of high accuracy, so CPDN ensemble results can be compared with those produced at centres where they use very powerful computers. After that, when the researchers were sure of the value of the datasets, the Classic models were used for several publications.

There\'s a list of publications on the CPDN website here.
