I wonder if a computer game based on climate change would be a good idea to educate people about the issues.

I\'m thinking along the lines of an updated form of the nearly 20 year old game SimEarth, which attempted to model the atmosphere and biosphere.

I\'m suprised there seems to be no open source game inspired by SimEarth. If anyone knows of one let us know...

Well, somebody got your idea of simulating the Earth on a bigger scale. I found this link on CERN Bulletin:

There\'s a game called Climate Challenge. It was designed by HannahR who worked for CPDN during its early Classic days and her husband Gobion Rowlands. There\'s a thread about it here. The game\'s on the BBC website. You can\'t rush through the game; you have to think about the consequences of every choice.

The game was pretty fun but took a long time. Results? Environment 80% (very low level of carbon emissions), Wealth 4% (economy in ruins...) and popularity 100%. I don\'t think the wealth and popularity figures are a possible combination in real life...

Whatever you choose in Climate Challenge it\'s impossible to succeed in every aspect. Probably very similar to real life and the current political situation regarding positive action to limit climate change.
