Hi all,

I am running a HadCM3 model (hadcm3iozn_cpqm_2000_80_95899127 task 6908451 workunit 6097345 machine 111574) since october 2007 and its only about 32% done. As it was blocking other boinc apps I already extended the deadline to the year 2013.
The server state says \"In Progress\" and outcome \"Unknown\".
Is this model in anyway of any interest any longer ?
It looks to me as if it is completely outdated and my machine is never ever coming up with a final result in time.

Thanks in advance,
Loui.

That model hasn\'t returned a trickle since late February. (Model page is here.)
It\'s possible that you have too low a resource share for cpdn, and, as your computer is rather slow anyway, the model isn\'t progressing.

A problem that has recently come to light, is that the latest type of model just release won\'t work on computers as old as your\'s, because the processor doesn\'t have SSE2. (Post is here.)

I see that your computer\'s crunching a task for SETI. I don\'t think it can have any tasks for LHC which has no work at the moment. If I were you, before your SETI task completes I\'d set SETI to No new Tasks (in the BOINC Manager Projects tab) and then let the computer finish this 80-year CPDN model. Before it completes, in your CPDN project preferences select the shortest model type then available. You would then be able to let SETI download new tasks again.

These CPDN models are still useful to the researchers and will be used. Your model\'s graph looks good so far.

I would advise you not to run the BOINC screensaver because it slows the task computation down. When you want to look at the graphics, use the button in the Tasks tab of BOINC Manager.

Actually, looking at the SETI account, the task there started on March 11, and the others have long since finished it.

So it\'s possible that there\'s a firewall problem, especially since the user name, Loui@Work, suggests that it\'s a work computer.

Thanks all,

I gues my machine and I are the ones outdated.

And it\'s - as the name indeed indicates - a work computer busy with java and database development. So I guess I put too much load on it.

And of course it was all my fault, because I didn\'t realize that SETI has put a longrun job on my machine which is running at high priority and thus locking out CPDN. I switched off new work for seti now.

Firewall btw. is not the problem.
Screensaver is completely turned off for the above reasons.

So I shall change my project preferences to select the model type. As it is some time ago I last changed anything there, could you just advise me where to find the project preferences ?

Thanks again,
Loui.

Your CPDN preferences are in your account. In the blue menu on the left of this page click on Taking part in CPDN and you\'ll see a link to your account.

Or in BOINC Manager Projects or Tasks highlight ClimatePrediction and a button for your CPDN account will appear.

I would recommend a HADSM task. They don\'t use any resources very intensively. The HADSM MH are similar but 33% longer.

The CPDN servers ignore task deadlines and accept results after the date, but it\'s still better to choose models that you can complete in a reasonable time. You can also select in your SETI account the type of tasks you want. SETI even has a button in BOINC Manager to go to your preferences.

Your changes only take effect if you click the OK button on the edit preferences page. Your computer must then contact the project server to inform it about the changes.
