... even though the program (HadCM3 6.04)
<hadcm3ivolc_l0p2_2000_80_86001316_4> is still running and accumulating cpu time.

is this something i should worry about??

Hi Tookalooka, happy new year!

Your model is doing well and trickled a few hours ago.

By \'user average\' I think you mean your recent average credit. Under your name here on the forum your RAC is listed as 304. Maybe the server needed an extra contact with your computer to update it. The trickle will have provided this extra contact. Do you think everything is all right now?

i guess ... i just thought it was really strange that the graph plummeted so quickly over a few days ... thought perhaps the program was acting goofy. the user average was up to 348 at one point, and it seemed like if the program was actually doing anything, the average should at least stay the same. it\'s still gaining cpu time, but only trickles every 24 hours ... which seems to be the case on certain models, while other models trickle almost every 4 or 5 hours.

if it looks ok at your end, i\'ll just let it run and see what happens.

thanks!

You\'ve run all current types of model (HADAM, HADSM + HADSM MH, HADCM) and they are all designed differently. They trickle at different intervals eg the HADCM you\'re running now will trickle each model year on about 7 December. Your model speed (the sec/timestep) looks perfectly normal - a bit faster than my AMD but rather slower than my Intel when running the same model type. There\'s a brief description of how each model type works here (though this reminds me that I urgently need to add the Mid-Holocene model description to that list).

You don\'t need to worry about your RAC at all. Your computer is doing well and your RAC will look after itself.

However.......I see that although almost all of your previous models completed successfully, one of them crashed with a -107 error code. This usually indicates a graphics error on the computer. I wouldn\'t be surprised if your graphics card needs an update, rather like a Windows update. No need to buy anything.

If you go to the CPDN README collections on the independent forum - second section here and look at the collection about crashes and problems, you\'ll find that item #7 by Thyme Lawn explains how to get these driver updates.

Item #6 by MikeMars in the same collection is also really useful for avoiding model crashes, and the collection about how to back up the BOINC Data folder (in case a model crashes and you want to rescue it) is also very useful.
