Message 36471 - Posted: 25 Mar 2009, 20:35:11 UTC

Hello,

Two of my computers (897524 and 903367) are network isolated. I thus use CPDN to make them science useful. Once a week, I do a massive release and get some new work.

The matter is that on the wu released yesterday (8510970, 8510961, 8510955), the claimed credit and thus the grandit credit is null. The results seems to be correct. All wus are some hadam3p.

What is strange is that just after the release, I saw claimed credit something. Is this normal ? Do I simply have to be patient ? Please tell me I will get some credit for this ;-)

Thank you for everything

You may well see credit for this in the next day or so.

Climate over the past week has had some glitches updating the credits -- in the past this has simply been an updating problem where some process did not run for one reason or another and then when it was run (manually or automatically) the credits got updated correctly.

Note, this is supposition on my part -- I\'m not connected to the administrative side of the project and as Climate is apparently quite resource strapped, there hasn\'t been much in the way of clarifying information passed on to folks in the user community.

Didn\'t run this morning. Les told me it was not planned, rather, \"just one of those things\".

I seem to have a large amount on BOINCstats from the 10pm run at Oxford for the 25th, which may include the missing amount from the 24th.

BarryAZ, [AF>EDLS]GuL, and adrianxw also received what appears to be credit for the missing day.

Thanks for the post, it is good to have information from a tad closer to the heart of the project.

Hmm, on the Climate stats page the last awarded credits I show were those posted at around 3PM (PDT) on the 24th. With the last multi-day gap in the updates (13th to 15th), the time of the update shifted from around 2AM PDT to twelve hours later (or earlier). That is, in UK time a change from around noon to just after midnight from what I could see. If internal processes are run on the new schedule, and happen, then I would expect to see a two day \'burp\' of posted trickles in about 6 hours here. If not, and they skip a second day, perhaps a three day batch of updates will show up on Friday.

The BOINCstats export seems to happen about 8 hours after the credit updates are posted on climateprediction. So the updates there trail what shows up by a half day.

On the climate prediction site, working back, I saw no update on 3/25, a \'double bump\' on 3/24, no update on 3/23

No run (export?) again according BOINCstats.
I\'ve asked Milo about it.

OK -- but given that the stats were not updated on the climate site yesterday, it isn\'t a surprise that BOINCstats didn\'t see a run. I look first at the climateprediction.net site for updates. If I don\'t see updated stats there by around 4PM PST, then I know the internal process for updating hasn\'t run. If it doesn\'t run, then it really doesn\'t matter if stats are exported. So in 2 to 3 hours from now, I\'ll know if we\'ve missed a second day here.

Barry

OK -- no update to their local database again today (it would have shown up by now -- 4PM PDT). I\'d kind of like to know what\'s going on with that....

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, BOINCstats say they received an updated export file at 14:46:34 GMT today.

Trouble is, it contained exactly the same figures as yesterday\'s and the day before\'s. I have a trickle received at 24 Mar 2009 21:15:27 which has not yet been credited.

Right, that\'s what I noted as well, it is the source updates (on climateprediction) which are not happening -- at least the past couple of days.

3/13 - processed
3/14 - no
3/15 - no
3/16 - catch up processed (and time shifted)
3/17 - processed
3/18 - processed
3/19 - processed
3/20 - processed
3/21 - processed
3/22 - processed
3/23 - no
3/24 - catch up processed
3/25 - no
3/26 - no
3/27 - ???

That timeline is the same as ours at Boinc@Denmark, ie. that this is the third such event recently.

Another effect I can see is the wu that finished 25/03 has not had it\'s final credit corrected, it still says 6,521.71 rather than the expected 6,805.26.

Shrugs, it has always sorted itself out.

Well, based on the update timing of the past week or so, I suspect we will be able to observe whether or not the update has processed in about 6 hours. The thing is, if this doesn\'t happen today, then it might not happen until Monday..

Carl, who used to be a programmer at CPDN, says he never expected his stats scripts to have to last for 6 years. He and Milo agree that probably all these scripts need an overhaul. They\'re not producing the wrong totals, but apparently they sometimes take far too many hours to run or they lock up or fail to run.

Milo\'s told the moderators today \'Some time ago I moved the boincstats script off the main boinc server and onto the database slave, because it only needs to make select statements and not inserts. Tolu has edited the trickle code so that it should control the running of the stats script and avoid table locking. The lack of stats over the past few days seems to have been a bug with this but he\'s now looking into it.\'

Just a couple of hours ago he added \'The script is running, so with any luck new credit will be seen by tomorrow.\'

(I hope Milo won\'t mind me quoting him.)

The credit is now showing on my CPDN hosts/tasks pages, so that script has run - RAC and totals on this board should be up to date.

But it\'ll be far too late to get anything across to BOINCstats today - a second script has to run, the files have to be copied, Willy\'s server has to notice them, download the files, load them into his database, merge with what\'s there already.......

Tomorrow, if we\'re lucky.

Thanks for the detailed message. The credits are now showing on the Climate site. Sort of a bad week for my BOINC projects, SETI is not generating new work nor apparently will it until next week sometime, Malaria has not generated production work for over three months, the Einstein primary server crashed this morning and are completely offline until they get things working again, and about two hours ago, the Milkyway project went offline totally (generating 404 messages on the home page), so the Climate trickles/credits reporting problem (now solved for the moment) was actually the least of the BOINC project woes for me.

I\'ve joined a total of 10 projects -- two closed down (Climate BBC - gracefully and Predictor - ugly), so for this week the only totally clean projects for me have been Spinhenge, POEM, Rosetta and World Grid)

Hello everybody !

I\'m sorry, I couldn\'t answer earlier.

When you wrote this message, the credits I had got were from others computers. But the wanted credits came today evening.

Thanks again for your efforts.
See you.

As an update on the other projects -- Einstein is still offline 24 hours later, SETI still has no new work, and MilkyWay went back online last night and then went offline again about 4 hours ago. I know the Milkyway project was in the process of splitting off their GPU workunits (they are one of the very few projects with an optimized client for ATI GPU\'s) but the double hit has a bit of the unplanned feel to it since there was no discussion of the plan in their message boards.

Climate seems to have run a \'catchup\' update so that one was run around 4PM PDT yesterday and a follow up update around 2AM PDT this morning.
