I\'ve been getting this each time an update was attempted for several days now - what\'s the deal?

ok - I take it you mean the servers are down at the time - thanks. I have checked the server status a few times when I get this message and haven\'t seen any problems, but I\'ll wait and see what happens.

If you don\'t have a cc_config.ml file in your BOINC data directory create it with the following content. If you already have the file change it to add the <http_debug> line.
<cc_config>
	<log_flags>
		<http_debug>1</http_debug>
	</log_flags>
</cc_config>

In BOINC manager click on Advanced - Read config file and then request a CPDN project update. If you need help interpreting the HTTP debug messages post them here. After you\'ve got the information you need you can disable the debug by changing the value in cc_config.xml to 0 and re-reading it.

\"HTTP internal server error\"

This can also indicate that the server is overloaded with work at the time.
People have produced a huge amount of data over the years, all of which is kept, (probably unlike other projects that only keep \"good\" results), and so the project has terabytes of data, which is now being slowly extracted so that the physicists can use it for research.

I\'ve noticed the above message at times, but BOINC will usually get through on the next attempt. Or two.
It\'s only if your computer is trying continuously for days and failing each time, that it\'s a problem. It which case, please tell us.

PS
Yes, it IS .xml

okay - I see. My machine is on most of the day a few days a week, and has been getting this message whenever it attempts a trickle-up return for some time now. [Power Mac dual 2.2Ghz]

Hi Scott
I see that you\'re in Australia too. So, early evening, around 5-6pm seems to be when there\'s problems for me.
But I see that one of your models has trickled every couple of days lately.

Did you get the cc_config file to work? That should provide some info for debugging.

Thanks again -

yes my laptop BOINC seems to be performing quite okay - it\'s the desktop that giving this problem.

When BOINC reads the config file, which I cut and pasted for accuracy, I get a messsage \"Missing start tag in cc_config.xml\"

Your account only shows one computer, so perhaps you created a 2nd account for the desktop, which we can\'t see.

This is the cc_config FAQ page.

I\'ve just tried the mentioned snippet from the cc_config file to see what happens. (BOINC 5.10.30)

I got this in the Messages tab:

So you have something odd going on with your BOINC install.

There sure is something wrong. I\'d noticed for a little while that only one computer shows on my account, a different computer depending on which one I was accessing the account from, although all the account details themselves seem to be identical. I hadn\'t begun to try to work this out yet.

I had tried leaving and rejoining a team, as I noticed that the team I joined for climate prediction didn\'t show in my Project window.

I had a look at the .xml FAQ page [thanks!] however the cc_config.xml file I have seems to be kosher. I rewrote it in Texteditor to be sure but with the same outcome. I did work many moons ago as a computer programmer, so I think I have the file right, unless there\'s an invisible character fouling up the works.

I also downloaded and installed the latest BOINC [6.2.18 - I may have been one version behind], however with the same outcome again.

Is the User ID, (9 lines down from the top of your account page), the same for both computers?
This is what identifies \"you\", and should be the same (for both of your computers) as the ID shown below your name to the left of your posts here. (i.e. 517508)

yes, the used ID is the same - also, both show me as part of the BOINC@Australia team, however this does not show on my desktop computer, although it does show on my laptop. Likewise, only my laptop shows in the computer list, regardless of where I sign in from. The desktop has actually been processing data for longer than the desktop.

This is a bit of a long shot, but perhaps network issues are involved.

* What type of network / internet-connection are you connecting via on the machine which is giving the issues? Is it the same one which the laptop is on?

* Do you use the same firewall on both systems, or are they different?

* Do you know if you connect via a \'proxy server\'? (These are generally only encountered in work computers or university computers).

okay - an ADSL connection at home. The laptop connects via the same service [on a wireless network] and also via ethernet and wireless in other locations with no problems.

Norton Confidential, which I\'ve had for some time before the problem arose. The same on both machines.

No proxy. The laptop connected via one for a little while at a university, again with no problem that I can recall.

EUREKA! [maybe] I tweaked some of the setting on my internet security software and cp appears to have successfully updated for the first time. My team does still not appear in the BOINC projects window however and only the laptop computer is appearing in the profile.

Just an update - my computers are definitely only registering the processing they do individually - not as a team. Only the laptop registers being on a team.
