Yes, it corrected itself in Phase 3:

Well done!

Thanks. The coupled model I got back in June just finished tonight. It\'s my first coupled model to ever finish!

Considering the conditions required for the successful completion of an 80 or 160-year model, to achieve this is a triumph for both Machine and Man. Congratulations, DJS!

Is my model an iceworld??

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=6913610

The graph is completely blue.

PS: I don´t want to make a new topic or search anymore :D, so I ask here:
Can I do something with this one?

It may or may not be an iceworld, but it is still trickling results at reasonable speed, so therefore I would recommend keeping it running.

If it significantly slows down, AND it is an iceworld, is the only situation where I would recommend aborting it. In all other cases, it is best to keep it running.

Neither Model shows evidence of a problem. The CM graph shows a reasonable temperature increase over the first decade. The Slab, in Phase 2, shows a normal Phase 1 graph and, according to reported Trickles, s/TS continue to decrease.

How long after restart did you check the graph? It takes a bit of time to initialize everything and process the first Time Step and the graphic is blue until then.

We need more information to make a determination -- information about progression of Time Steps, indications in Messages tab, etc.

I think after restart it showed different temperatures and later turned blue.
The speed didn´t change IMO. I have never checked the messages. I thought everything should be fine. I suppose I was wrong.
Can I continue the CM model somehow?

We still require something to work with.

Please go boinc Manager\'s Messages tab and copy any which suggest a Model failure.

Check the Task tab graphics: Are \'seconds per Time Step\' still progressing normally? If the speed didn\'t change, you should be okay -- though I can\'t explain the blue earth, unless there is a graphics problem.

The machine\'s other Model crashed with a -107 error, which is often caused by an old graphics driver. Given that your machine is old and relatively slow (for this Project) the driver might be out of date. See Thyme Lawn\'s post for a way to test the driver and get/install an update:

If you look, the precipitation graph for the first model goes off the scale about a third of the way into the phase 1. That is definitely erroneous data, but I believe part of the research here is to see what parameters do/don\'t work. For the record, I had a slab model that turned blue in phase 2 but corrected and finished OK in phase 3.

As for the coupled model, I don\'t see anything wrong per se except maybe the slow performance. Maybe the admins know what to look for.

My graphics card is an old geforce 2 GTS and I already have the latest drivers installed. The test gives me this answer:

Renderer: GeForce2 GTS/AGP/SSE/3DNOW!:
...2.0 (shading language):
ARB_vertex_fragment not supported.
...2.1 (pixel buffer object):
ARB_pixel_buffer_object not supported.

I have the feeling that the model is too fast, it models 1/2 hour every 2 sec. Is that speed normal for my AMD Athlon Xp 1800+ ?

BTW: I have set my Boinc Screensaver to show nothing, just black.
And the graph is showing a 2D-Map, not a 3D rotating globe.

I just searched the \"stdoutdae.txt\" for errors.
The only one relating to cpdn I could find was:

2007-10-24 16:28:40 [climateprediction.net] Reason: Unrecoverable error for result hadcm3inct_cm1s_1920_160_05863617_2 ( - exit code 1073807364 (0x40010004))

(and 2 server erros for cpdn)

Can I restart this workunit?

Maybe the first model stopped because I deselected the 80-year model in my preferences?
I´d really like to complete the first model.

To continue with a model, it MUST still be in listed the Tasks tab, or you MUST have a backup of the entire BOINC folder, made before the problem occurred.

Those preferences only affect new models, not ones you already have downloaded.

Tanks for your replies.
No unfortunately I havent got a backup. And it´s not in the list anymore.
Hopefully the new model will be ok.

Hi T!RO

Yes, I can see something wrong with your HADSM slab model. DJStarfox was right when he said that the precipitation graph is not normal. The temperature graph is fine but look at this:

DJS thought that the precipitation had gone off the scale (too high or too low to show on the graph). This is not exactly what has happened. Your model stopped processing the precipitation data part way through Phase 1. It is now only processing some of the data and this is why the timesteps are getting faster (the timestep figure is a cumulative value since the beginning of the model).

If the model had started processing precipitation again in Phase 2, the timesteps would be getting slower again. This has not happened - they are still getting faster. A lower number is faster.

This is not a frequent problem, but another member had a model that did this. The researchers will not want a model that has only processed part of the data. You will need to abort it.

But there is one good thing for you! You can\'t complete the model, which is a pity, but all the days your model was running so fast, you were getting extra credits compared with a normal model!

Ok not so good news for me.
How can I abort the model so that the credits won´t be deleted?
When I abort the model in the tasks-window it says I won´t get credit for it!
Shall I click \"reset project\" in the projects-window?
Or shall I click \"no new tasks\" and wait until it stops and then \"reset project\"?

A lot of the messages apply \"strictly\" to other projects, and only \"peripherally\" to this project.
In the case of credits, other projects ONLY give credits for a fully completed work unit. In this project, you get credits all the way through a work unit (model).

So, elsewhere, if you abort, you get NO credits.
Here, if you abort, you KEEP all of the credits given UP UNTIL THE ABORT.

So just relax and click the Abort button.

PS
Reset project will also abort the model, and delete all of the climate programs as well. Then you have to download all of the programs again, as well as a new model.
It\'s mostly used when files/programs get corrupted.

I better click on reset, sounds better to me :D
But shall I definately abort it now?
Is my model useless?

If your long coupled HADCM model is running on the same computer as the problem HADSM, you mustn\'t click Reset which will delete everything from CPDN on that computer. The Abort button only deletes the one model you have selected.

But if the HADSM problem model and the HADCM were on different computers, it doesn\'t matter much whether you click Reset or Abort.

Before you click Reset or Abort, make sure you have selected the type of new model you want in your project preferences. I hope you have better luck with your HADCM model and the new model you get!

By the way, it\'s a good idea to make regular backups of the complete contents of the BOINC folder. Restoring a backup would probably not have saved your model (I think your model probably had a defect), but it can save lots of crashed models. There are backup methods in the project READMEs - link in my signature.

You won\'t lose any of your credits when you Reset or Abort. On CPDN we always keep all of our credits whether we complete the model or not.
