For some time now, BOINC doesn\'t seem to be doing any work. I\'ve updated BOINC, but when the screensaver runs, I see only an outline planet earth and the work progress bar has been at 8.something percent for months. I don\'t understand what\'s going on -- what do I need to do? |

What is listed under \"Status\" in it he Tasks tab? The Tasks tab is completely empty, even though I\'m attached to two projects. In the messages there\'s this: 17/08/2007 20:43:53|climateprediction.net|You used the wrong URL for this project 17/08/2007 20:43:53|climateprediction.net|The correct URL is http://climateprediction.net/ 17/08/2007 20:43:53|climateprediction.net|Using the wrong URL can cause problems in some cases. 17/08/2007 20:43:53|climateprediction.net|When convenient, detach this project, then reattach to http://climateprediction.net/ What was the wrong URL I was using, I wonder? I\'ve updated it and things seem to be downloading now. |

If there was nothing in the tasks tab, then BOINC had no work to run. The \'wrong url\' for this project, is usually one which contains \'www\' at the start. Backups: Here |

Ok, now it says: 17/08/2007 20:58:34|climateprediction.net|Message from server: No work sent 17/08/2007 20:58:34|climateprediction.net|Message from server: (there was work but you don\'t have enough disk space allocated) 17/08/2007 20:58:34|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 462.2 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for maximum disk space used. 17/08/2007 20:58:34|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication for 1 hr 0 min 0 sec 17/08/2007 20:58:34|climateprediction.net|Reason: requested by project My C: drive is mostly full, so I expect that\'s why -- how do I tell BOINC to use another drive for data? I have plenty of space on other partitions. |

Exit from BOINC. Copy the entire BOINC folder. Create a BOINC folder in another drive. Paste the copy into this folder. Download a new copy of BOINC to this new location, so as to fix up all of the registry entries. PS You may have a lot of dead models taking up space on the C: drive. These have to be manually deleted. Backups: Here |

Windoze isn\'t renowned for its housekeeping abilities. I\'d follow Les\' advice, but use the Win. Add/Remove tool to un-install boinc first; that\'ll clean the Registry of old boinc entries. (I don\'t trust Windoze to properly clean the Registry -- which made a place for \'add-ons\' to do that job -- hence the un-install prior to a move.) Removing boinc doesn\'t mess with any of your other files in the boinc folder. My boinc folder is already on a different drive I use for applications. That has 4GB of free space -- surely this is enough? |

Then, your Preferences setting probably keep boinc from accessing anough space. What do you have in Disk settings? Also, as Les mentioned, crashed Models leave dregs, sometimes large dregs. Yes, I set disk usage preferences fairly low a long time ago, probably because I assumed it would clog up C: by default. Good to see it doesn\'t :) How much space does climateprediction need? It doesn\'t seem to say. |

Here\'s mine; note that I don\'t have a 100 Gig Partition on any machine but these work well for me. [Edit: CPDNboinc has its own Partition on each of my machines; might make a difference in what you choose, if you have a multi-use Partition...] Use at most 100 GB disk space CPDN doesn\'t require it but none of my CPDNboinc Partitions are less than 15 Gig. Of course, I run CPDN Beta as well as \'production\' flavors; that makes a bit of bloat. For a disk-short installation, I still wouldn\'t allow less than 5Gig. (It pays to leave extra space for different requirements with new Model types -- room to grow; we used to have greater space requirements than is the case now but that could change.) Whatever your numbers, boost them and see what you get. "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |
