Thanks, IanB! ;-) But I do get a lot of support from iansm, plus occasional contributions from Ray Murray and several of the lovely forum moderators ;-)

Hello all. Been a while since I have looked at the posts here. Still churning through the models, although not as quickly as some others. It's a little slower in 2013 as the Linux quad was decommissioned and rebuilt for SWMBO to use.

Talking about the weather, the sun and warmth have arrived here. 22.5 deg C just along from Legoland. Time to restart the cooling system i.e. open the french doors.

Very energy-efficient, chaps! ;-)

Team Scotland is 9th in RAC today, must be an all-time high, well done everyone! If we keep this up, we should even move onto page 1 of the team rankings in total credit quite soon ;-)

WOW, not only are we at 8th in RAC today but we've also moved into 20th place in total credit, so on the front page of the team rankings in both categories - well done everybody! ;-)

This from only 18 active crunchers. Just think what we could achieve with a few more. Anybody got any active friends to recruit?

It's been a while since we had a new member who went on to make a good contribution.

Meantime I'm putting a spanner in the works! Have built two new systems to replace two older rigs but with half the number of cores available for CPDN crunching.

i.e. 2 x i5-3570k each with 4 "hard" cores but no additional (hyper-) threads to replace the older i7-9xx systems each with 8 threads.
The graphics cards (for GPUGrid) also need dedicated CPU cores so we are down from a maximum of 12-14 running models to only 4-6 (depending on number of GPUs in use).
The i5s are quicker so may be equivalent to 7-8 of the first gen i7s.

Enough of the techy stuff. Bottom line is that my RAC should drop from over 5k recently to maybe around 2.5k.

We shall see the next time a new batch of work units is released.

Sorry about that!

IanSM

P.S. Someone could kindly ask IanB if he might upgrade his 1st gen i7s to current 3rd gen i7s (which still provide hyperthreading)!
P.P.S. Now have one i7-920 (8 model) cruncher for sale which has made a good contribution to the project over the last 3 years! Not allowed to advertise here though :)

Hi Everybody

Just to jump in were now ranked 7th in RAC today new high :)

best wishes
Ian

p.s. about the chip upgrade as you probably already know upgrading to the latest chips means a complete rethink on hardware ( motherboard etc ) so pennies are the issue lol especially if the case like you i would be doing both rigs at the same time :) in saying that i am sort of due some sort of upgrade although the overclocked i7 920's have been super chips

My last model finished and I've been waiting a few days for a new one, with no work available, but I've now got one and there are a few more ready to send, if anyone else is looking - they're RAPIT project (hadcm3n)

Well done, Iain! ;-) Actually, there are a lot more ready to send now - there were only 48 when I looked yesterday.

hello,

I got a couple too but my cache is set wide open at 10 days so any new ones floating about i can catch :)

BREAKING NEWS :

We have a new member Dave Roberts so welcome to the team and don't be a stranger on either this forum or our own forum

ian.sm does the stats but not every day so you may not see your name up in lights straight away but notified there's a new member he's pretty quick at adding new members :)

best regards
Ian

Got a bunch after spotting Margaret's helpful spot about new models. Thanks!

What I had to do was increase both caches to 10 days until new models downloaded
after setting no new tasks for GPUGrid. Then revert to zero + 0.01 days for a special GG reason.

Er, now have 34 'live' models (run in rotation depending on number of cores available - currently 13 at a time).
Helped by using a third PC (oldest, replaced by a new build) for GPU testing until ready to sell.
Sorry about greed but aim is to reach a milestone of completed models before winding down CPDN to share
cores with WCG on a rotational basis. Will be lucky to hit milestone by end of this year so much CPDN crunching to do!

Apparently there are new projects in the WCG pipeline (of special interest to me) as well as an improved user interface.
Standard BOINC, at last?

Yes, last night started to update stats which quickly reported Dave Roberts. Unfortunately 1 second later the script canceled with a "member left" message.
Member Kevin who is no longer active.

This is a lie. No time to dig into code (already one other known bug) as I'm mega busy and very code rusty. Will try a manual workaround today.

Incidentally I thought we had a Dave Roberts in the past. Like the BBC project but definitely not there (in Iain's final BBC stats).
Good to get the occasional new member though. Perhaps being in page 1 of leading teams' tables does help - as someone recently commented :)

Cheers

A very warm team Scotland welcome to Dave Roberts, who has just joined the team, as already spotted by IanB and Ian.sm. Thank you for joining us - we hope you'll enjoy being part of this friendly team, Dave, and we look forward to hearing more from you. And, since you posted elsewhere in this forum asking whether your credits would move with you (which they do in CPDN, unlike other BOINC projects), I hope you'll be pleased to hear that the addition of your credits to our team has pushed us into 19th position in total credits - overtaking team UK, who have 827 members compared to our 120! ;-)

Glad to have pointed Iain and Ian.sm in the direction of new models too ;-)

Just in case anybody's interested, ABC Radio are currently broadcasting live from Strathpeffer Pavilion in honour of Strathpeffer's famous annual Victorian Day (yours truly has just been interviewed, but it's a live broadcast, so you've missed that  ;)

Not sure if this is going to work for forum members overseas but here's the link http://abcradio.co.uk

Thanks for the welcome guys, I thought that since I live on the Isle of Skye I really ought to contribute to team Scotland. Considering the no. of active members, it's amazing where it is on the stats board. Very impressive.

Cheers
Dave

PS
I was a member of the BBC project, which was where my interest started, but lost my user id etc.. so never got linked to CPDN.

Hi Dave, nice to hear from you and you're welcome for the welcome! We're quite proud of our friendly little team and many of us (including me) also started out on the BBC project - I also "lost" my BBC credits where CPDN is concerned because I changed my email address after the BBC project finished. But ian.sm somehow still manages to include my BBC credits on his wonderful team stats pages, don't know how that works but I'm grateful to him ;-)

But of course, it's the science that matters, not the credits as such!

How lovely to live on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

PS: since you reminded me of lost credits, I've just noticed that my CPDN credits have finally overtaken my BBC credits, which is a good feeling.
