St. Georges\'s flag Here is some information about St. George. Saint George is the patron saint of England. He\'s popularly identified with England and English ideals of honour, bravery and gallantry - but actually he wasn\'t English at all. Very little, if anything, is known about the real Saint George. Pope Gelasius said that George is one of the saints \"whose names are rightly reverenced among us, but whose actions are known only to God.\" Facts in brief Everything about Saint George is dubious, so the information below should be taken as mythical rather than real.

Ice. No mention of a Dragon in facts. I have just purchased a Cross of St George air freshener which I will proudly display Monday, with only the slight reservation that people will label me a right wing thug for doing so. pb |

Ice. It\'s sad that anyone would be worried about flying an England flag for fear of being accused of being right wing thug. It\'s the sign of the times; a bad sign. As for the dragon - it never was a fact. It was probably the English symbolizing their defeat over the Welsh dragon I expect - but as you can see, the dragon is still there on the flag of Wales. But then again it was used to symbolize the Christian defeat over evil. But them so much about St. George is myth. He\'s still the patron saint of England! |

Ice, Happy St Georges Day. Yes it is a shame that the extreme left have managed to demean our flag to such an extent. As for the Dragon I always assumed that if St George killed anything it would have been a large Nile crocodile, but the defeat of the Welsh Dragon is probable a better explanation. pb |
