The newest version is boinc of quite fussy about the URL, it\'s irritating. What I wish it would do is actually tell you the URL it is expecting! (I think the information is available in the \'master\' file download).

I\'ve just entered exactly that URL and got the same message about it not being a BOINC based project. Any further advice, please?

You did it without the \"www\", right?

It might help if you\'d post what the Manager has in the Messages tab.

Correct. I did not use www.

Most recent messages above.

I can report progress of a sort. After being told that the address was not available I tried again and was given a message about failure being due to one of three reasons: connectivity problems, personal firewall, or proxy server. I retried for the connectivity problems, I checked that there were no BOINC files on the firewall prohibited list, and so conclude that it must be to do with the proxy server. Unfortunately I have no idea what this means. After getting the message described above I pressed Next and was confronted with a screen to input HTTP Proxy for server, user name etc and for SOCK proxy for server, User name and password. What should I put in these, please? Thanks Tim

This means that BOINC can\'t connect to the project\'s server, so it\'s going to see if it can get to the internet, by contacting a reference site, Google. Which should always be available.

BOINC can\'t get to the reference site either, so the problem is at your end.

The proxy server details will depend on which one you\'re using.
These servers are mostly used by business/school computer networks.
Is this computer one of these, or in your home?

If the former, you\'ll have to ask them.
Keeping in mind that you need permission from schools / business, etc, to use their computers for BOINC projects.

If the later, it\'s up to you to know if you use one, and the details.

If it\'s your computer, and you\'re not using a proxy server, and your ISP isn\'t either, then it may just be a matter of saying NO, or NONE, in some of the fields, or leaving them blank.

PS
When I couldn\'t get to the server this morning, it turned out to be my DSL modem.
While I was waiting for the model to reach a checkpoint so that I could backup the BOINC folder, and then re-boot the computer, (which was going to be about 3/4 of an hour), the modem started to re-activate itself. It seems that it was my ISP that was \'down\' for a while.
