I had a problem a few days ago and had to switch to my backup hard drive. Once I got back up and running I have been unable to get new work from the Climate Prediction server. I keep getting a message about deferring communication. It says it can\'t get any work, but that there is work for other platforms. Anyone else having this problem?

There are no MAC Work Units for the Transient Coupled Model. See the \'Sticky\' at the top of the MAC page. Sorry.

The situation may change for Intel-MACs in the future

Apple computers are only about 2%-3% of the consumer market, and about the same on all projects that have a Mac application. (At least according to BOINCstats.)

And the same amount of time is needed to create and test a climate science application for them as for Windows / Intel machines, so it\'s not economical.
And, at present, the programmers don\'t have a Mac on which to build and test.

Yep, the reason is the development hardware.
You can try other BOINC projects in the mean time

Which Mac would you like?

Good question.

A modest proposal: If the CPDN people could assure us that they would work to produce a current Mac client and could commit to maintaining it for a reasonable period, then couldn\'t the Mac CPDN people band together and get them an Intel Mac?

What are the system requirements? The Mac Pro\'s are pretty pricey ... would an Intel iMac or even a Mac Mini do? Is any Intel machine enough ... or would you need both a Core Duo and Xeon?

An additional thought for people in the US. Given the nature of CPDN, it would probably not be too hard to locate a nonprofit organization that could offer tax deductibility for any donations ... provided this hypothetical nonprofit and CPDN could sign a simple understanding in which CPDN assured that the hardware would be used for its nonprofit research purpose.
