When i start Boinc it always fails to connect to the localhost? Why is this? what am i doing wrong? I am using windows xp with the latest version of the software. i have tried to reinstall the software but with no luck.

Unfortunately, M$ sometimes grabs one of the ports assigned to BOINC, so BOINC can\'t use it.
New ports have been requested, in the hope that M$ won\'t grab them as well.

In the meantime, try going to the menu and clicking File/Select computer.
This gives you a popup, so people with several computers in a network can pick which one to look at.
The trick here, is to click OK with both fields left blank. This should connect the gui to Localhost.
