I have completed approximately 11.6% of a sulphur cycle model using BOINC 5.2.7. My current disk space usage has risen to 880 MB. It was my understanding that the total model run would take approximately 600 MB of hard drive space. If the disk space usage continues to increase at this rate I will have to stop the model to preserve disk space for other uses. What\'s going on? Is there any way to modify preferences to decrease or stop the rate of increase of disk space usage?

Thanks
Andy

600 Megs was for a slab model in the original pre-BOINC version of cp. This blew out to about 700Megs for slabs before they were stopped. (Most of the FAQ is for classic cp, still used for the OU course.)

Sulphur needs a couple of Gigs to be safe.
They have 5 phases instead of slab\'s 3, and the end of phase trickles are bigger; 8Megs for the first, 2 for the others.
After each phase is completed, data is zipped, so hd space used will drop again, and slowly build back up.

And, no, you can\'t fiddle with preferences to stop this extra hd usage.

Am using 1.862gigs on one box, running 1 slab and 2 Sulphur and 3.58gigs on the other, running 4 Sulphur.

The Wiki has more information on requirements of Sulphur Cycle runs:

The sulphur cycle has grown to over a 1Gb, so I decided to stop accepting work. Will this affect the growth rate?

Sulphur models need about 2 Gig each. You are crunching 2 at once, so you should allow for about 4+ Gigs.
There is some compression after end-of-phase, and end-of-model.
