For security, I run my web browser with Javascript disabled by default. I notice that the navigation bar at the left requires Javascript to be active in order to work. Also, even when the main site has been added to my \"trusted sites\" list, some of the links go off the main site (e.g. this submission page is on climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk), requiring more settings tweaking to get them to work properly.

Some other sites use Javascript to highlight links, but the navigation still works when it is disabled. I can understand if this is a low priority, but it would be more friendly to use this style of navigation rather than rely on the users having a low-security browser configuration to access the site.

I have asked this too quite some time ago, for a different reason. I\'m used to use tabbed browsing with the middle mouse button or open links in a new window and both doesn\'t work with this type of menu.

An optional solution would probably be to repeat the most important links in HTML on the page bottom.

This would reduce server load too as one wouldn\'t have to make use of the \"Back\" button so much which always causes a reload of home.php, which I have as the entry page from the bookmarks.

Strange thing about this is that the menu on the front page works without javascript, so why can\'t menus on the rest of the site do it?

The web site was created way back in 2001/2 by someone who moved on a long time ago. Those who now have to make changes aren\'t familiar with how it all works, and, while some things have been changed, (with some difficulty), a lot will probably never change.

I\'d quite like to see the JavaScript go too (particularly since it doesn\'t do anything necessary anyway!), but as Les says, it\'s unlikely to happen any time soon.
