Hello,

I\'ve installed boinc running as an task but all climateprediction WU are ending with an error and when the error occurs I have graphical error on my pc and it has problems to write information from other applications to the hard disk when I\'m closing them (e.g. to shut down the sytem).
Can anyone help me why these errors occure?

What is the error? You can copy and paste information from the \"Messages\" tab of the BOINC GUI to help us know what error it is. Also, your PCs set to \"hidden\" so we can\'t see your results and determine the error ourselves.

2005-12-04 17:08:29 [---] Can\'t open temp state file: client_state_next.xml
2005-12-04 17:08:29 [---] Couldn\'t write state file: system fopen

client_state_next.xml is a transient file that BOINC uses while it updates client_state.xml (writes current data to \'next\', moves existing file to \'prev\', moves \'next\' to new file). Failing to write to it could be a number of things:

  • you\'ve lost write access to the BOINC directory.
  • there\'s a read-only client_state_next.xml file in your BOINC directory.
  • you\'ve run out of disk space.

I haven\'t i\'m using xp home edition, boinc is running as a task and the priviliges are correctly set.

  • there\'s a read-only client_state_next.xml file in your BOINC directory.

Actually there\'s no client_state_next.xml file in my boinc directory.
Should I create the file?

  • you\'ve run out of disk space.

There is more than 10 GB free disk space.

Now, my PCs are visible. Have a look

Greetings

Do you have Antivir installed as virus scanner? Those two (antivir and cpdn) are known to interact badly in certain versions (at least in the two most recent ones).

Switching to another virus scanner might solve your problem. If this is not an option for you, you might consider either downgrading to an earlier version of CPDN (don\'t ask me how to do that) or disabling climateprediction for the time being.

If you want to test whether antivir is causing the problems you\'ll either have to completely uninstall the program or at least terminate every antivir task (either from the task manager or, if you are running XP Professional, from the \"Services\" tool - found in Control Panel - Administration). Just stopping the scanner from the resident utility won\'t help.

For me, changing the AV scanner was not an option, and neither was downgrading the client. So I have disabled CPDN for the time being.

If any of the CPDN people are reading this: Please get the client fixed so it will work with antivir.

yes, i have installed AntiVir as virus scanner and it\'s running. I have also stopped running cpdn for the time being and I also have to say:

The problem is with the way that Antivir works.
When a program sends a write request, antivir blocks it, and checks the file for a virus.
It\'s a bit like security: OK at a shopping center, but not at an athletics event,
where it\'s like an official suddenly appearing in front of a runner every 10 feet to stop them and check their identity.

If you can\'t use something else, and can\'t exclude the BOINC folder from scanning, then you\'re wasting your time trying to run cpdn.
