Having recently upgraded from v.4.19 to v.4.45, I find that my data backup application, Backup4all, fails to open. I have advised the Backup4all team of the problem, and wondered what change occurred in 4.45 which might cause this conflict. Closure of BOINC 4.45 enables successful operation of Backup4all. A trial application is available at http://www.backup4all.com.

There was a major change to BOINC after 4.19
I don\'t know the details, but there are now 2 parts to the program: boinc.exe, and boincmgr.exe

Your problem has probably got something to do with this.

The boinc.exe daemon process in v4.45 now listens on port 1043 for boinc client connections.
Perhaps the client or server part of your backup application also uses this port?

If this is the case, the backup application developers ought to consult the IANA well known port list, which shows the registered boinc ports and they would be well advised to register their own ports to prevent future similar situations.
