Just posted by "Rom" at SETI Boards (may interest some)

It looks as this is going to have to wait until Friday morning PDT.

For those who have not yet experienced a major version upgrade, what will hapen is this.

The project will be brought down while the server-side binaries are upgraded. Between now and then you can let your caches drain by setting your preferences to minimum of 0 days and maximum of 0 days. Then update the project to pull down the new perferences.

When the server comes back online it'll have the new 4.x clients. When you install it, it'll rebenchmark your machine and dump any workunits that remain.

Other than that, it'll look just like the 3.x client.

wow thanks, I didn't realize the 4.x switch was so soon. that's cool though, they're coinciding with our launch! so now I can "officially" run CPDN & SETI!

Sure can...

That FMC post was actually me (I have a work account and home account... figure I SHOULD give work the credit for the 15 machines they are running *innocent grin*)

Only time will tell... no sign of the 4.0x yet... but its early in the day *cackle*

Also from the Predictor message boards:

There is actually not a huge difference between the server code we are running now and the version 4.x: we have constantly upgraded the code to solve past problems and so now most of the daemons and the FastCGI are the same. We are testing the version 4.x on a local testbed and we should be able to keep in sync with the rest of the Boinc community.

and also:

Yes, we are trying to make the cutover sooner than later because it would help a lot of users not having to choose a project ;-) Going to 4 on the server side should be easy enough (almost all the daemons are 4.x compliant already, but we have some more testing to do to make sure everything will work in the end.

More SETI news:

[quote]
August 27, 2004
We are currently experiencing a hardware issue with our scheduling server, we expect this issues resolved within the hour. The upgrade to 4.x will start around 11am PDT and will take roughly an hour. Anybody who has any remaining results to report should get them in before the upgrade, after the upgrade you'll need the 4.x clients to report new results, and upgrading to the 4.x client will reset the project on your machine. Roughly 100,000 results are queued up and ready to be sent out after the upgrade, plus the three splitters will be up and running producing work as quickly as possible.

It's now 17:45 PDT and still nothing at SETI. Not a big surprise ...

Yep but looks like there still working away... a few more quotes from the forum boards from THE Rom Walton (SETIs version of Carl *evil grin*):

[quote Posted: 28 Aug 2004 1:33:06 UTC]
I'm back in Washington now, I just received email from the admins that this mornings hardware issues have been resolved.

After taking a quick shower I'll post a news item and a revised time schedule for the upgrade.

I'll also have to make some calls to find out availability of the Admin staff in case more hardware issues crop up.

This last bought with hardware issues began at 2:30am PDT, the exact problem still had not been isolated when I left at 2:30pm PDT.

The rumors floating around that it is related to the 4.x upgrade, are false. The servers at this point in time are still 3.x

Okay folks, I haven't been able to get ahold of the right people to do this upgrade right now.

So I'm going to delay it till at least tomorrow, when I can get ahold of some people.

I'll go ahead and post a news item on it. Sorry about the problems and all, it completely shot my day as well.
