The problem is at Bern University in Switzerland.
And apparently BOINC will abort the upload attempts after 14 days.

I just upload 2 trickles, and Bern still isn't working.
It looks like we're going to lose a lot of models soon.

I've just posted <a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board/viewtopic.php?p=29490#29490">advice on the phpBB forum</a> on how to ensure you don't lose a result because it hasn't been able to upload for 2 weeks.

Any ETA for when things might be back to normal? Just finished a WU today. Sulphur downloaded fine and is running just fine. I'd not paid much attention, but it seems the upload problem has been going on for a couple weeks. Now I have a set of results that cant be sent back. (I'm in the US and it seems that I'm trying to hit a server in the UK)

CPDN really needs to get everyone posting in one forum (IMHO). I don't care if it's the boinc stuff, or phpbb, but it seems info seems to not make it to both forums, unless someone posts a cross link...

No news yet.

The problem is with the upload server at Bern Uni in Switzerland.
They're not far from the river Aare, which is badly flooded.
(Or should that be: flooded badly?)

These boards are hosted at Oxford Uni, and the php forum is hosted at The Open University, Milton Keynes. When the servers at one are down, the other becomes a backup.
This will happen this weekend with OU down for maintenance, as per the news on the front page. Which is on the OU server.

edit:
Carl's looking into now.

Well BOINC just gave up on trying to upload my results for a model. "Giving up on upload....too much elapsed time" is what is said. Is that it? Is it lost? All that processing down the tubes?

If you don't have a backup from before the message, yes. You've lost it.
But you will get the full credits and, on the next contact, "Over Success Done".
(Been there, had that happen, couldn't find a T-shirt!).

So has anyone heard anything about when Bern will be coming back online? I did the action suggested by Thyme to reset the upload duration but I would like to clear my transfer queue soon...

I have to say I'm not too happy my model went down the tubes here. Sure I get credits but there is no model result as far as I can see and that's why I ran it for week after week.

I was out of the country and could not follow the advice from Thyme Lawn. Given that 14 days trying to upload by BOINC is, evidently, not a sufficiently long enough period can this be changed to avoid it happening again? Is this project configurable or is it BOINC wide?

Disappointed!

The 14 days is BOINC. Probably because it was never considered that a server would be down for so long.

If you have a backup, save the zips and client_state.xml
I suspect that a lot of people are going to be in the same boat, and it's possible that some arrangement can be made, similar to the manual upload in Classic cp.

I wonder why CPDN can't set up a server to redirect the uploads to another mirror...

Don't forget that the Bern server is owned by that university. So the CPDN team would need permission, and the good people at Bern have had other things to think about recently.

I have one criticism of BOINC in an architectural sense. That is that it does not appear to be able to have clients connect and get/return work from/to multiple hosts such that those hosts can be in different locations. I would strongly recommend this for future consideration. I see the additional complexity but I do think a distributed computing system should distribute more than just the client processing.

Yes. Mine uploaded fine. Are you still getting the exact same error messages in the last few hours about "temporarily failed upload"?
