Just a data point:

I dual-booted my laptop: win xp sp1 / suse linux 9.1, standard install for the linux. The machine is a 2GHz P4 (i think it's a Xeon) with 256MB ram.

Running windows returns high 6s or low 7s whilst under linux it returns 4.9/5.1

This difference hasn't occurred with an athalon axia-y 1GHz (256mb ram, desktop) clocked to 1.33 which returns 7.9 under both OSes.

(an athalon xp2000+ running knoppix with 512MB returns a pretty solid 4.29)
