Hello, until recently I ran CP.net/BOINC with my PC connected to my university\'s LAN. Now at home, I have connected my PC to a Broadband connection, and as a result BOINC appears to be unable to upload its results to the CP.net server, constantly giving the error message \'Deferring communication with project...\' I use Windows Firewall, which has been configured to accept boinc_gui.exe .

I initially posted this message on the ‘Preferences’ forum. Some of the comments posted point to the fact there may be a problem with the Oxford server (as other people are having similar problems)

Thanking you in advance for your advice.

P.S. I found a line in BOINCclient_state_prev.xml stating that my upload when present URL is; http://phkup21.unibe.ch/boinc/file_upload_handler. I understand there is a known fault with http://cpdn-upload1.comlab.ox.ac.uk/cpdn_cgi/file_upload_handler . I\'m by no means expert when it comes to this sort of thing, am I on the right track??

Did you use and specify a proxy server when connected to the LAN? Check Tools -> Oprions if you have any proxy server specified; uncheck it if you did.

Hi pwillener

No, I didn't connect using a proxy server. I've just checked the settings in BOINC and both HTTP Proxy and SOCKS Proxy are unchecked.

Thanks for your help.

:-( The downloads are still not working. After deferring communication for 7 days, BOINC has decided to defer communication for a further 7 days. In messages it says:-

Can't resolve hostname CP.net (valid name, no data record of requested type)
Couldn't read master page for CP.net: error -113

Help! :-(

You get this error message when BOINC can't get to the net.
I'd suggest that you tick Disable BOINC Network Access under the File menu until you work it out. This will stop the defer time from getting longer.

If you are sure that your net connection is OK, maybe a reboot will help. But I'm clutching at straws now. Don't forget to Suspend, wait, Exit, wait, first.

Les

Going to ask the "stupid question" can you connect to any thing, email or just browse? If you can not connect to anything me thinks you do not have it connected or configured correctly.

I use Zone Alarm as my firewall and it requires that I give, Boinc Client permission to connect as a server and permission to Boinc Manager for Windows to access my trusted zones Lan and internet.

I am pleased to report that the upload to server problem has resolved itself of its own accord :-) I got a little frustrated there because all the postings either suggested things I had already tried, or pointed to things I knew were ok :-)

However like I say it is has resolved itself. How I don't know :-)

Best Wishes all, and thanks again for your time.

That pretty well sums up my experience of comms problems in general. :)
