Im new to BOINC, i used to run SETI as a stand alone, I now have CP and einstein as well as seti running on BOINC, can anyone tell me what resource shares I should set to each for best perfomance. I have a good spec P4 3.04HT 1gb of pc3200(dual channel) etc etc. I have been messing about and got them all set to use 33% but since I did that the graphics dont display when the screen saver is active, I would prefer to have them set so they dont use the full 100% of my resources, maybe 90% each would be preferable. My problem is I dont understand how you specify this to get that share per project?

On a Dual-CPU Athlon I get the best results when I have 50% for CPDN, the other two sharing the remaining 50%. It doesn't always work to have CPDN running continously on one CPU and the two others alternating on the other CPU though. But I still think that's somehow the best setting.

The buffer size (connect to network about every) I have set quite low, it shouldn't need more than 1 day there in this combination.

Limiting them to use only 90% can be done with an extra program - I haven't tried that though. It's called "Threadmaster" and must be somewhere (or linked somewhere) on the BOINC pages.

(edit : found the <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/download_network.php">threadmaster link</a> )

For best performance use blank screen and no BOINC screensaver.

BOINC is a polite program. As soon as another program wants some resources, it puts the current project
'on the back burner' and runs the new program as well, at a higher priority.
When this finishes, the original project gets back the resources.

If this isn't what you mean, then follow what Ananas said about Threadmaster.
This will allow you to run your computer at less than full cpu capacity.
