Hi,
I keep getting this repeating message when I try to update my project:

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Server can't open database

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Project is down

3/11/2005 11:16:36 AM|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication with project for 14 minutes and 22 seconds

Any idea what I'm supposed to do, I intialy had a problem with BOINC 4.19 this morning, with it not wanting to update, so I upgraded to 4.25 hoping it would fix the problem.

Not that it matters, but the project is still running, and crunching like normal. I'm running to WU, both are in the 2nd phase. Id sure hate to lose all the work when I'm almost 60% done.

I know suddenly it kicked back into gear. Thank god.

I have reverted back to 4.19 though, I found 4.25 to be dreadfuly slow. Anyone else have a opinion on the 4.25 version. Now that I have 4.19 back on, the speed seems very reasonable. Or perhaps the speed is the same in both versions, it just takes longer to show as such on the progress tab?

It just updates the values in the progress every 4 or 5 seconds. It's as fast as 4.19 with my machines.
But the progress bar is sadly missing :(

Saenger,

Do you know of any real advantages of 4.25? Do you think I should go to 4.25, even though the progress bar seems lacking? Beyond this little hiccup, I am loving CPDN/BOINC and grid computing in general.Im also doing a projet through UD. A very exciting time indeed!

From Rom Waltom, Project developer:

I'm pleased to announce the 4.25 release of the BOINC client for Windows.

The highlights for this release are:

1. A MSI based installer, for large scale deployments.
2. A new task based GUI which utilizes the wxWidget cross platform
framework, so we could use the same GUI code for the rest of the platforms.
3. Installation options for running in the shared and service execution
modes.
4. A more comprehensive set of GUI RPC's for management of the daemon.
5. Abilities to suspend/resume projects.
6. Abilities to suspend/resume results, even ones which haven't started
executing yet.
7. Abilities to abort results.
8. Abilities to abort transfers.
9. Abilities to add URLs to the GUI Interface on a project specific
basis.
10. Supports multiple messages returned from the scheduler.

We would like to thank the Alpha testers and the various community members
who reported bugs and helped us smooth out the rough edges.

We are still cooking the Linux, Solaris, and Mac versions which should be
showing up in the next week or so.

And from my POV:

What's good:
1. At least we have a version that 'remembers' the disconnected setting, phew, was it that difficult?
2. Wow, i can suspend single projects and even wu's, that's good.
3. Multilanguage interface (not really for me).
4. You don't have to manually correct the host venue anymore.

What' not that good:
1. The big 'tool tip' (?) window to the left is not hideable and is wasting valueable screen space. Where to stop this annoyance?
2. The window position is not saved.
3. Last version (4.19) i could doubleclick the icon to show and doubleclick again to hide. Now i have to choose 'Hide' in the menu. Wow.
4. Where is the progress bar?
5. No context menu on projects. Have to use the big left annoying panel.
6. Can't sort columns by anything.
7. It's really big. (Nearly twice the size of the old CC) A long download for us dial up users.
8. I have swap between projects interval set to 150min (so predictor WU's finish in one step). BUT, when I do a manual update, CC suspends current project (before 150mins. have passed) and resumes with the project I update.
9. Where are the graphic displays on the disc usage tab? The 'info' in this tab is just useless, if not compared to the whole system. I don't care about the layout, but the lost informations about used and unused space for boinc and other.

but!
The 'bad' is mostly just appearance, the good is real stuff.

So for me it's 4.25 now!
