Just thought I would make a quick post to say that things are moving again with the alpha test.

How much longer does it take to complete a 4.09 model compared to 4.04 on your PC?

Maybe 60% slower per phase, and there are 5 phases currently. So a model that took 18 days under regular CPDN BOINC, would take 48 days under Sulphur. I do not know if the 5 phases are what is planned for when sulphur comes out of alpha/beta.

Hi,
I crunch a regular model in ~30/35 days with 1 thread of my P4 HT 3Ghz (~3.5 S/ST)
Boincview says sulphur will take 88 days (about 2100 hours) on the same machine. (~5.90 S/ST).
Enjoy :o)
(I hope people doing sulphur will have extra crédits for their patience and dedication.....no ?....well, I crunch it anyway :o))

Damn it - the BOINC forum i mean. Can't post withnout AccountID; can't remember my ID. Does anybody has memory good enough to remember everywhere he/she is?
Another reason for phpBB!

Back to topic: Sulphur cycle was ment to be a 5-phase model since...well, at least Open Day. If a remember right, it's a combination of CO2 + sulphur cycle experiment like: Phase 1-2 same as standard, phase 3 2xCO2, phase 4 2xsulphur, phase 5 2xCO2+2xSulphur.

Ahh. Thanks for that Honza. Wonder what added complexity there is in the first phases that makes it run slower?

I imagine it's all the extra calculations required for the base level of sulphur aerosols used in phases 1 to 3.

Yeah, there is a 3D map of sulphur concentration - look in 'datain' folder for largerst file...got it? That's the sulphur one :-)

From Duncan Ackerley's pdf of the open day
Experimental Design
1) Calibration run
2) Control run
3) Perturbed run with 2050 SO2 emissions and
present day CO2 levels.
4) Perturbed run with 2050 SO2 emissions and
2XCO2 levels.
5) Perturbed run with present day SO2 emissions
and 2XCO2 levels.

Not sure what differences there are between 2*sulphur and 2050 sulphur. The order appears different but I do not know if that order has been kept or changed. Only thing I am sure of is that calibration has to come first.

hi there, I got an e-mail from the team at the end of last week asking me to take part in the sulphur test. Is this update verison 4.45, as I checked out the link which the e-mail has and its just taking me to model ver 4.45, but in the e-mail it says its a 23meg download, can't find enough information on the model itself, can someone tell me if I have the correct model for the sulphur cycle??

Hi. BOINC version 4.45 is what they want you to run to participate in sulphur. When you register, you can attach to the CPDN sulphur project with the information in the subsequent e-mail. When you attach, BOINC will download the CPDN sulphur model (4.17 in Windows or 4.18 in Linux) and the data necessary. It is actually more like 30 megs of download.
