HELP! Does anyone know why my computer is not trickling? I'm almost all the way through the first phase of my first experiment, and my profile says that I am not “trickling”. I can’t figure out why. I’ve reviewed my preferences to see if I unknowingly told it not to trickle, but, cannot find anything. I am on line an average of 2 hours a day, and have a dial up connection, so there is an internet connection for at least part of the day. Because of this I’m not getting any credits. Please help.

What happens when you are online, you go to the Projects tab, right-click on climateprediction.net, and choose update? Are there any error messages at that point?

Also, have you ticked 'Disable BOINC network access' under File in the menu?
If so, untick it to trickle.
This is used to only let it send when YOU want it to.

Your computer might already have tried to trickle too, everytime it tries to contact the scheduler and fails (because it's not online), it will increase the delay before it will try again.

So make sure you are connected, uncheck "disable network access" like Les described it

If it doesn't try to update now, go to the "projects" tab, right-click the CPDN line and choose "update" to force a contact immediately.

This will reset the piled up delay times too if any.

Check the messages window too for hints about a failure.

Not 100% sure but I think the client needs to send 1 trickle before it pops up in the list.

James joined in late January, so it's unlikely that he would be running classic.
And the account data is for BOINC. Classic can't be seen from here.

Hello, Hello! Are you still there James Conroy?

Another possiblility is a fire wall that is not allowing BOINC to access port 80.

But we can't help you if you don't talk to us. :(

DEAR ANANAS

WHERE IS THE "PROJECTS" TAB. I TRIED GOING IN BY CLICKING ON THE "B" ICON IN THE TRAY, BUT, THAT BRINGS UP A "PROJECTS" TAB THAT DOES NOT DO ANYTHING WHEN I CLICK ON IT. NO CPDN LINE, NO UPDATE. I EVEN TRIED TURNING OFF MY FIREWALL, -SOMETHING INEVER DO ONLINE - TO SEE IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. STILL NO TRICKLE.

and <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=1984#9626">here's an answer</a>.

James,

mavau and I are referring to the BOINC gui (graphical user interface).
If you're running in cli (command line interface), it's different.

The gui, usually displayed by clicking the B as you describe, has the following tabs (at least in 4.05):

Projects, Work, Transfers, Messages, Disk

when you click on Projects, you get the following columns just below the tabs:
Project, Account, Total Credit, Avg. Credit, Resource Share

Under 'Project' will be listed the dc projects you are running.
This project is called climateprediction.net
Right-clicking on this name will produce a 'drop down' menu, the second item of which is Update.

If there is no climateprediction.net, with info in the various columns about it's progress, then you haven't even started running CPDN.
And if it IS running, there will be a lot of files labelled trickle_up...... in the main BOINC folder.

Re-post when you get this far.

If there is no Climateprediction.net line in the projects tab, this would suggest that you have not yet attached to the project (or accidently detached). But this would be at odds with you saying that you are nearly all the way through phase 1. If you have detached, use the setting, Attach to project to enter the URL of www.climateprediction.net and your accountID which was emailed to you.
