The Title about says it.
In the 'General Settings' page, It's not clear which of the 4 questions are referring to the Hard Dirve and which of the questions refer to RAM.
Can someone please clarify this for me?
Thanks, DougRH@Shaw.CA

Use no more than 100 GB
Leave at least 5 GB
Use no more than 50% of total space
Use no more than 75% of total virtual memory

The first three of these refer to hard disk space. The last one refers to ram.

Isn't 'virtual' memory on your HD as well? The RAM is afaik the 'real' memory, so everything refers to the HD.

"virtual memory" is the page file on your HD or some would say "mechanical memory" it is not as efficient as the actual RAM itself eg: If this kind of memory has to be used often it will prematurely wear out the HardDive because of increased read/write work done by the mechainical arm in the HardDrive unit.

In my system which runs this program I have 2Gb of DDR2 @ 533Mhz - this is by far the most efficent "electronic" memory in my system and likewise with other PC's though they could be of the older DDR1 specification> eg: it could be somehting like 512Mb DDR @ 400Mhz.

Hope this clarifies things a little easier as too what actually is virtual memory but to adjust the program's settings strictly for RAM, still escapes me at the moment. However, I am useing just over 100Mb of RAM for 2 BONIC's climateprediction programs and just under 100Mb of "virtual memory" for both.
I would personally like to know, like the original question here in this topic how to use less "virtual memory" and a lot more RAM ( as I have plenty to spare!). I'm still searching in the forums for this as I can not find it in the FAQ's.
