Hey all,

I've just started on the climateprediction app, but had seen mention that the AMD processors were slower. Mine is an Athlon 64 3500+, currently running in 32-bit mode on Linux.

It's just using the default build at the moment, but I could recompile if it will make a noticable difference. Suggestions?

Hi Tim,
it has been discussed in details before - but since phpBB forum is down and BOINC search engine is not working for me...perhaps somebody will provide exact link.
In general:
- CPDN code is not available to public
- you need a propher AMD complier (e.g. Fortran capabilities)
- you need to get a CPDN model stable which was kind of problem with attempt on 64-bit version, IARC.

Sooo, it's not as easy it i might seen, i'm afraid.

Hm. It still wouldn't be 64-bit in my case, as the rest of the system isn't there yet. I think someone has a 64-bit compiled version of Debian out there, but I'm not using it yet.

I was mainly hoping that something would be available which would at least go as fast as possible on what I have. It isn't a crisis or anything though.

Cheers!

I didn't see any dramatic speedup when I made CPDN/BOINC work on my AMD64. The model code is proprietary so not something to compile in the public domain (it's also tough to go through and get compiled & working as Tolu & others can attest!). It may be interesting to run CPDN/64-bit someday as the scientists usually run the models as 64-bit, so when more PCs out there are 64-bit it would be nice to do a true "A/B" comparison perhaps.
