I started getting this error this morning when I first turned on the PC. It\'s in a 1 minute loop where it downloads work, puts out the above message, then waits one minute and starts again. Any help appreciate.

If that's a BOINC error code my guess is it's a problem creating a shared memory file (ERR_SHMGET). The error codes are available here

Thyme Lawn, thank you for the pointers (no pun intended) to the error codes. Is there any troubleshooting information? Nothing has changed since I shut down last nite (no new apps, etc.) Thanks again.

Afraid I can't give you any more pointers, Jon. If it is a shared memory problem my guess is that you'll only get an answer from the project team.

I've just found the likely cause for this problem.

I've been running the CLI program as a service for a couple of days, had to reboot my system last night and boinc_gui started up because I'd forgotten to delete it from the startup folder. Got exactly the same problem, which figures because hadsum3 was already running.

I then played around a bit with stopping and restarting the service and GUI and the same thing appears as an error in the application event log when the service starts with the GUI running.

Also got a situation where the BOINC icon disappeared from the system tray but boinc_gui was still running. It was late when that happened and I think I was suspending execution at the time, but I seem to recall that restarting boinc_gui restored the icon without any errors.

I get the same error, (-144), on this DELL P4 1.8A WinXP SP1.
Ran fine for a while and got two Trickles but now only crashes.

No overclocking here.
